Doug is Director of First Year Studies at The University of Auckland Business School. At the HERDSA conference, he will be hosting a roundtable discussion. Team-Based Learning (TBL) is not a new method of teaching and learning. What is interesting about the Business School's approach, however, is that this has involved a highly strategic adoption of TBL on a significant scale (more than 2,000 students per semester) within the first year undergraduate experience. In addition to focussing on the effective delivery of academic content, our approach has explicitly also involved using TBL to support the academic and social transition process for first year students, and to help those students to begin developing important graduate capabilities.
