Colin Clarke
Dr Colin Clarke, Senior Lecturer in Higher Education
Colin is currently course leader for the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE) at Kingston University. Since taking up his current post in 2013, he has managed the implementation of a new PGCLTHE programme and its development as an online distance-learning course. Prior to joining Kingston University, he was a Senior Research Fellow on an International research project.
He received his BSc (Psychology) from the Open University and his PhD (Social Policy) from the University of Portsmouth. Colin became an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society in 2007 and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2008. He was awarded Chartered Scientist status with the British Psychological Society in 2010. He is also a member of the Centre of Forensic Interviewing, Portsmouth University.
Colin's primary research interest concerns the development of forensic interviewing skills. (Clarke & Milne, 2001; Clarke, Milne & Bull, 2011; Clarke & Milne, in press). His doctoral work is used as the foundation for the police investigative interviewing framework in Britain and many other countries (e.g. Australia, New Zealand), including the UK.
Since 2012, his research has focused on the understanding and development of critical thinking by students and academics in Higher Education. Using a combination desktop and primary research collected as part on an International study, he has been developing an online tool for scaffolding students’ development of critical thinking (www.critica.ac.uk). The findings of this research will be published as a book towards the end of 2015.
