How we live and work is an important concern in our complex society. Numerous social, technical, and economic trends are today altering our relationship to both higher education and our career. To be and remain employable, in a period of change, is different from what previous generations have encountered. As the nature of work changes, so to does the role that universities play in helping to prepare individuals for continual change. This presentation will explore labour market trends, the need for perpetual learning, the mindsets required of individuals to succeed in today’s context, and the emerging technologies that make this possible. Focus will be on the role of universities as one of widening, not diminishing, influence in the lives of learners, society, and work.
