Gwen Lawrie

Gwen Lawrie is a Associate Professor in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) at the University of Queensland (UQ) and is also the Director, First Year Chemistry. She gained a BSc (Applied Chemistry, Hons) from Sheffield Hallam University (UK) in 1986 and a PhD from Cranfield University (UK) in 1990. Gwen completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) at UQ in 2006, and taught in high schools in 2007, she commenced her current teaching-focused appointment in 2008. Gwen has been the recipient of a 2013 OLT Australian Award for University Teaching; the 2013 Pearson RACI Educator of the Year Award; a 2012 UQ Award for Teaching Excellence; a 2012 UQ Teaching Fellowship and a 2011 Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award. She is an active member of the chemical education research and practice community, her projects to date have addressed diversity and engagement of students through collaborative inquiry tasks, the implementation of undergraduate research experiences, and mechanisms for provision of formative feedback to support self-regulated learning.
